Construction Nurse Call System Selection Criteria

Construction is a high risk industry, where workers brave unpredictable weather conditions, work at great heights, and handle dangerous tools and machinery. They navigate constantly changing building sites, adapting to new layouts whether they're permanently on the project, or employed as a contractor or sub-contractor.

In the event of a nurse call emergency on a construction site, it is crucial to have a straightforward and dependable method to alert others, establish clear communication channels with important event information, and coordinate a swift response.

Nurse Call Triggers

The primary considerations for any nurse call trigger is visibility, usability, and reliability.

In terms of visibility, can a worker see the trigger from a distance? Is it easily discernable from other equipment with the use of bright colours or distinctive shapes? Are they easily accessible? Do workers know where triggers are located as the construction site evolves and equipment might be relocated?

Vanguard Wireless nurse call triggers use vibrant colours on weatherproof aluminium backboards that measure 520mm tall by 325mm wide. They're easily seen from a distance. They're also assigned a name via the touchscreen control unit and/or smartphone app (subscription services).

How workers use the nurse call trigger is also a primary consideration when selecting a nurse call system. Is it clear to workers how they can trigger an alert? When they use a device to trigger an alarm, do they know that the alert has been received and whether help is on the way?

Vanguard Wireless nurse call triggers use a simple single touch call button to trigger the alert. There's also two lights which indicate the alert has been sent, and received.

When considering nurse call systems, do the options rely on 'press and guess', where a worker presses a button and guesses that the device has power and is connected to the rest of the system? If the nurse call trigger uses a signal to connect wirelessly to the rest of the network, how does it adapt to changes on site such as added walls or floors?

Vanguard Wireless device power and network connectivity are visible via the touchscreen control unit and/or smartphone app (subscription services). System managers can also set up SMS alerts if a device looses connection. Workers should never be in a 'press or guess' situation as system managers know how each device is performing at all times, in real time.

Nurse Call Alerts

Once an alert is triggered, how do emergency response personnel learn of the emergency? Is it a simple audible sound, or are their visual cues as well? What information do they receive? How do they know where the medical emergency on the construction site is? How do they know if someone from the team is responding?

Vanguard Wireless nurse call alerts are sent to the touchscreen control unit and/or smartphone app (subscription services). System managers can also set up SMS alerts for when an alert is triggered and when it's accepted or declined by someone in the team. Each alert includes the time the alert was triggered, the location of the alert, and who triggered the alert (if triggered from the app or a wearable).

Time is saved by sharing important information as the event unfolds in a one-to-many approach, where each message reaches multiple recipients at the same time.

Reporting

Incident reporting involves the capturing and documentation of vital information surrounding a specific incident or event. This process encompasses the collection of data such as the individuals involved, the details of the incident itself, when and where it took place, the underlying causes, and any other relevant information.

What reporting does your business require about a nurse call event? Does your construction business already use an app that captures event information? Can you download reports for process auditing?

Vanguard Wireless enables you to download event information on each incident so you can streamline processes that ensure accuracy and efficiency.
